BEST TIME TO VISIT AND WEATHER.

Zambia is blessed with sub tropical climate and comprises of 2 seasons namely; - dry (winter) and wet season (summer). The wet season runs from December to April and this season is characterised with greener landscapes, short rainfall showers, best season for bird watching, favourite time to witness the birth of baby animals. Due to the thickness of the vegetation it’s hard to see animals during this period and hence it’s not the best time for wildlife viewing. During this period most un-tarred roads are impassable, muddy, and slippery and it’s difficult to drive on such roads, most camps, hotels and parks tend to close down during this period, though some camps stay open like those in South Luangwa. This is a low season for tourists’ hence low rates are charged.

The dry season usually runs from May to October and it’s the best season for wildlife viewing. This period is characterised by cool day temperatures, temperatures tend to drop at night so it’s advisable to carry warm clothing. Animals can easily be spotted from a distance, as they tend to gather around the few available water sources and its usually peak season but Victoria Falls tends to be busier and busted with tourists.

The best time to visit Victoria Falls is from February to May where you can enjoy a great water spectacle as water levels are high, October and November-water levels are low and you might find that the Zambian side has dried up but you can easily cross over to Zimbabwe for the best panoramic view of the falls (this has been made easier by the new introduced uni-visa that guarantees entry into both Zambia and Zimbabwe on a single visa).
