If one wishes to trek gorillas in either Uganda, Rwanda or DRC, they definitely require to purchase gorilla permits for the visit to trek the gorillas. There is always a very limited number of gorilla permits issued for trekking gorillas on each day in Rwanda, Uganda and DRC, as the number of gorilla trekkers are restricted to 8 for each gorilla group. It is absolutely imperative and advisable to book and reserve your gorilla trek permits in advance especially during the peak holiday months of June, July, August, September, December and January when demand for gorilla permits is extremely high. Gorilla permits do sell out months in advance especially for Rwanda given the close proximity of Volcanoes National Park from Kigali- 2.5hrs drive, most gorilla trekkers prefer to track the gorilla on the Rwanda side of the mountains where the gorillas live.

For visitors who may wish to trek the gorillas in both Uganda and Rwanda, we would recommend flying into Kigali and then crossing over to Uganda via the Cyanika border crossing.
